Search and rescue (SAR) is the search for and provision of aid to people who are in distress or imminent danger. The general field of search and rescue includes many specialty sub-fields, mostly based upon terrain considerations. These include Mountain rescue; ground search and rescue, including the use of search and rescue dogs; swift water rescue; urban search and rescue.
Success depends on the skills possessed by our members which they have acquired through the numerous and varying training opportunities offered by MOCSAR and other specialized SAR training programs. We constantly strive to keep our members prepared for any emergency which they may encounter throughout our service area and the United States.
The classes offered begin with the basics for novice team members and progress through all phases of search, recovery and rescue in any type of environment. Many of these classes are offered for a fee and are scheduled throughout the year. MOCSAR provides opportunities for in-house training and field skill practice as well.
Skilled Search and Rescue personnel know the importance of being well prepared for any event we may encounter in the field. In order to be available to assist others in peril, we must first take care of ourselves. The following is a list of the most basic equipment needed for an eight hour wilderness search pack:
